In Indonesia, a lot of vocabularies in our daily lives are derived from the Dutch language. This is because in the ancient times, Indonesia was colonized by the Dutch in the state. Dutch language were used for daily language of indigenous people. Although not all indigenous people can pronounce it.
Some of older generations ever say that the origins of the word "gedhang" (banana in Javanese) is derived from the Dutch word "goed dank u" which means "good thank you". These words come from the Netherlands who thanked to the indigenous farmers because they had given bananas.
At that time, certain person who can speak Dutch usually is considered from the elite, which can only take part in education or school when the Dutch government still controls Indonesia. In short, after Indonesia became independent and separated from the Dutch colony, the Dutch language slowly began to fade, but absorb it into Indonesian language.
